Saturday Market
Salem Saturday Market is held outdoors each week from 9 am to 3 pm covering a square block area in front of the Oregon Capital building. The market area is planted with mature trees and is surrounded by office buildings, churches and residential apartments. Over 200 booths are in operation during the busy summer months. Seating is provided for customers to listen to music, eat and visit throughout the market. Music begins at 10 am and lasts until 2:30. Shorter slots are available. Duets, singles, group musicians and choirs have worked well with this venue.
SSM Holiday Market is held at the Oregon State Fairgrounds inside the Americraft Building (formerly called the Jackman-Long Building) the second weekend in December each year. There are 196 vendor and community booths with a large central area for entertainment during the 2 day market. There are 7 entertainment time slots available during 14 hours of the market. Festive music of all types is welcome. Electricity is available for amplification.
Music Buskers
Students (and only students) are welcome to showcase their musical talent at Salem Saturday Market (and collect tips!). We are limited to three students playing at any one time and each must rotate every 30 minutes. They are asked to check in at the market information booth and wait for the Market Manager to assign them to an area, as available. Electronic amplification is not allowed, nor is playing or singing in a loud, disruptive manner such as to impede communication between vendors and customers.
